The First Week Back to School – Settling Into Routine
The first week back to school is done, and I have to admit — routine feels good. After a summer full of late nights, long days, and plenty of spontaneity, there’s a comfort in structure returning. The kids are back into their classrooms, each of them juggling their own mix of school and after-school activities — swimming, football, gymnastics, ballet — and I’m back to balancing their schedules alongside the rhythm of work at the coffee shop.
It’s busy, of course. Some days feel like one long carpool loop, others a shuffle between uniforms, snacks, and last-minute reminders. But in the middle of it all, I notice the small wins — a smoother morning, homework done without a fuss, dinner eaten around the table. Those are the moments that remind me why the balance is worth finding.
Outside, the world is shifting too. The evenings are darker, the air a little cooler. The season is nudging us forward, away from the brightness of summer and into the slower pace of autumn. Instead of resisting the change, I want to lean into it. To embrace earlier nights, cozy layers, warm drinks, and the chance to pause after such a full summer.
Life right now is a mix of school schedules, work commitments, and the turning of the seasons — all layered together. And while it’s not always seamless, there’s something grounding about it. A reminder that change, in all its forms, can be steadying if we let it.
Here’s to finding rhythm again, embracing the season ahead, and carving out the little spaces that make it all feel possible.
